Mend Honeywell 3 way valve Way Valve Heating

Honeywell 3 way valve?

I have a Honeywell 3 way valve on between my HW & CH. It is wired to a Potterton Controller.
Currently the CH comes on when the HW is on with no control.
Can anyone advise a procedure for checking the 3 way valve.
It has a auto and manual switch fitted to the side which is currently set to AUTO.

turn off electrics does lever on side of valve now move freely.does it make a kind of whirring noise when pushed right across.if it is stuck then its the synchron motor ,that as gone if it does move then the ball inside the valve is passing , that is presuming that it has at sometime previously worked right?
