My Humax pvr9200t320gb has all of a sudden started recording here and there and also losing recordings overnight when in standby.The box is 3yrs 5mths old. Have tried factory reset,but still got problem. Is this something that cannot be sorted and will I have to buy a new recorder.

If you are saying that it is creating a recording when you had nothing in the schedule then that is a very unusual fault.
However the losing of recordings and the remaining recordings being not as you would expect is typical of a hard drive index corruption. This is very easy to fix but you will lose all your recordings
MENU -> Record -> HDD Control -> Format.
