how do i know if its the thermostat or element wont heat?

the heating element will show visual signs of damage,eg broken hanging element ,sometimes it can break in the hanger location ends and may not be noticed .if you have a basic multimeter you can test for continuity on the elements .the stat can be tested with your multimeter for a open circuit .if you are familiar with electrical circuits you can bypass the stat ,but the moment you feel any heat you must shut down.
