machine will not empty properly?

Hi, Hoover Gemini 294 washing machine. Spins slowly & will not properly empty + suds left after rinse. I think this happened years ago & it was the button trap causing it ........ I cannot find the button trap to check, it shows a picture of the button trap in the booklet but not where to locate it. Please any help/advice would be so appreciated. Many thanx
