samsung ER 2710 cash register problem?

I have a samsung ER 2710 cash register. After entering the amount and trying to enter into any department key (such as pop, food etc.) i just get a beep and nothing happens. The beep stops when i hit the clear key. There is a EC displayed in the green display. Any ideas of what is wrong and how to fix it ?
