mitsubishi shogun R-reg over heating?

I have mitsubishi shogun 2.8 small wheel base 4x4. lately when pulling a horse trailer the car has been over heating after about an hour in to the journey. i have had the theromsate changed, the head gasket changed, my mechanic isnt sure what else it can be.
until yesterday the car over heated for the first time when not towing.

any help please?
