Following a electrical surge (which set off all the local house alarms) the key pad does not work. I can not reset the alarm.
The key pad lights are still illuminated.
Zone 1 indicator is illuminated
Agreed, they go a bit weird when the battery has failed.
As for cheap and nasty, far worse being sold new.

Battery needs replacing, Once you have done that, you may well have to power the system down, mains and battery. Then first, power up battery then mains as the system will probably have locked up because its a cheap and nasty alarm panel,
