how do i find out why the spark is weak on my kohler cv14s?

i have a snapper 1550lx ride on lawnmower and the spark is very weak. i'v just replaced the solenoid, after the previous owner fried it. i think the earth is fine (at solenoid base). the engine turns fine. oil light comes on ok. any ideas please?
