42LG5010 ghosting/poor refresh rate left hand side of screen?

The TV is working... However the left hand half of the screen is suffering from ghosting. Well, actually, I wouldn't say ghosting more of a VERY poor refresh rate. If I put a still image on screen then the picture appears fine. But if I kill the video in feed then the right side goes blank but the image remains on the left hand side of the screen for about 10-15 seconds (gradually fades out) Prior to this fault it had a faint line down the left hand side of the picture (possibly connected) about 4 inches in, from top to bottom, and occasionally the picture went blurred for a few seconds. TV is well out of warranty. Any advice most appreciated.
