Maytag premier older stacking washer and dryer. ?

One load of clothes will come out a bit damp and next load will have enough water to wring out by hand. Water is visable in the bottom of the tub is plainly visable. I did think the amount of clothes in the tub would be a factor but it does not seem that way.
Also one time the tub will spin in what can be described as casual and the next time quite rapidly.
I have a hard time believing that wrong soap is the entire problem but I do understand the concept of load suds soap as we were users of Amway at one time.
