IWDE12 Washer-Dryer is broken, don't know what's wrong with it?

Can anyone help, my washer-dryer does not do anything when on washer mode, the lights come on but it does not fill up with water or spin. When on dryer mode only it seems to be working okay, until after 100 minutes I opened the door expecting my load to be dry and I was blinded by the amount of steam coming from the dryer and my clothes, to top it off my clothes were still damp.
I have had an engineer out who says it is the board but I don't know what this means, he said he would try and find a part which would cost over £100 but has not been in contact since (it has been a week).
Can anyone help me?
