How to fix my peugeot 307 petrol gauge?

Ive had a problem with my peugeot 307 rapier petrol gauge after blower unit got repaired. Garage said it was an electrical fault but im looking for ideas. When battery goes flat and you start it with booster cables the gauge works until you turn the engine off again then it stops working again. could this be fuses? wiring?earth?or mechanical problem.
