what can make a sterter stick on?

sticking solenoid. the solenoid is part of the starter - usually you can remove it and replace, it works when you turn the key to engage the starter then when you release the key back (when engine starts) it disengages the starter ,you can usually lie under and hit starter with a mallet to disengage and prove its the solenoid sticking
