55 Plate VW Golf. ESP light staying on?

I have the same problem with my ESP light staying on all of the time. Been to my local VW dealership ( were I bought the car ) to book in for a full diagnostic, at a cost of £48.00. The service / receptionist guy said he did not know what the problem could be, and advised that he didn't want to guess. Whilst the guy in the parts dept advised my wife that they had been having alot of customers return with trouble with the ABS pumps, which appear to be the reason behind the fault, and advised that they have been doing the repair free of charge as a goodwill guesture. When I confronted the service guy with this info, he started to stammer, and advised that they would only be able to give me an accuate answer after completing the diagnostic. I decided to leave it at that, but wish that I had seen this fourum first.

Before you do anything else, change the 30amp fuse!! don't just check it, change it. I have had consistent problems with my ABS for the last two years and I finally tracked it down to the fuse. It looks fine and even checks out with a meter but on very close inspection it has deep pitting on the blades that causes a circuit failure when the fuse is in situ.. This was the cause of my ABS light all along. Replaced the fuse with a new one and problem instantly solved. The fuse is in the bottom right hand corner of the fuse block next to the battery, and it's 30 amp. I bet a lot of people have spent a lot of money on ABS ECU's when all they need is a 50p fuse.

your electronic stability programme problem is a common fault on these and it looks like a new abs pump assy will sort out the fault but may be a bit expensive,would try and shop around for a new pump
