how can i fix my pc it has frozen?

my pc has frozen i switch it on and it shows all my icons on my desktop but freezes i cant open any files or even close it down what can i do to fix this can anyone help me please .

It could be so many different things but i suspect a virus....

Can you boot it in safe mode? Preferably with networking and do a virus scan?

To boot in safe mode when you turn it on repeatedly press f8 until you come to a different screen than usual and select safe mode

Post back if you can do that please and i'll try and help you from there
