How can I fix my old simpson washing machine model 107?

My old Simpson washing machine (model 107) is an absolute gem and up until this point we have always been able to fix it ourselves. Some friends came to stay and played with the settings (could have been coincidental) and now the machine doesn't recognise when to stop putting water in to the tub and moving on to the wash cycle. If anyone could help I would be extremely grateful.

Most simpson washers use a pressure switch to end the fill cycle and allow the timer to move onto the wash cycle. On the inside of the machine but on the outside of the wash tub you will find a rubber hose about the diameter of a pencil. One end is connected to an outlet towards the bottom of the tub and the other connected to a pressure switch in the control panel. As the tub fills the water inside the hose rises and, at a predetermined setting, the pressure activates the pressure switch thereby completing an electrical circuit to the timer and thus activating the timer to turn another notch in the cycle. In older machines this hose perishes and allows the pressure to escape resulting in your machine overflowing. Replacement is routine for a tradesman but not recommended for the amateur.

In your yellow pages you can find an appliance repair shop, tell them you need a new timer switch, give them the make and model #, there usally carry most styles in stock but they can order any part if it is still available.As I have done alot of repairs on my dryer and some on washer I know that most parts come with instructions on how and where to put the part properly.
