How can I fix my Epson sx100 Printer?

The printer is printing scanned b/w photos with lines through them.
I took out the black cartridge and shook it to make sure there was enough ink in it (It is a new cartridge) then replaced it in the ink 'cradle'.
Now I am unable to turn off the 'stop' light which keeps flashing to check the printing.
