Mend Volkswagen Golf 1800 GL Engine Cooling Overheating

renewing thermostat on golf 1996 1800 gl?

will renewing the thermostat stop the temperature warning light flashing continuously. I have checked water levels but engine runs hot especially around town. Does the strength of or lack of anti-freeze have any bearing on this problem

if your top rad hose is getting hot and radiator is circulating hot water also, dont think it is your thermostat,is your fan kicking in ok motoring in town?check you haven`t got excess pressure in your expansion tank and take cap off and check for air bubbles in coolant which would maybe point to your head gasket,good luck
