how to reboot?

how do i reboot my computer i have recently changed my hard drive for an other one as the one i had was getting very slow its says on the screen searching for boot record from floppy not found searching for boot record from ide-o..ok and it just seems to be dead my computer takes a square thing that you put in and a c.d thing. on the screen it says insert disket but i havent got one to put in it. some one has lent me a recovery cd but now it says what is the password what does this all mean and how can i fix the problem? please help urgent 31/05/06 wednesday thank lorraine a new beginner to this

By replacing your hard drive you have removed your operating system (the software that drives the computer). The fix is to put the old drive back.

If the old drive was slow it doesn't mean it was broken it means it was fragmented. When you have put the old drive back, use the System Tools Defragmenter to defrag the drive. You can use your new drive as the 'second' drive. Drives usually come with instructions on how to do this.

Recovery CDs have to be from AT LEAST the same make and model of PC. A lot of current ones are actually keyed to the Microsoft label on the bottom of the PC.
