my desktop starts but monitor says no signal?

what is the problem with my computer? computer turns on and everything works, except monitor says no signal. changed cable and monitor showed for a few seconds then "no signal" I have windows XP Pro

is it an emachine or some other pc ? if yes then the motherboard is most likely at fault, easily replaced, look for me elsewhere on this site by searching for emachine repair, or t/p in UK
