Mend Hotpoint WD440 Switch Timer Start

hotpoint wd440 stopped working?

when i switch my hotpoint WD440 washer/dryer on, the on/off and timer lights start flashing and pump runs.
Have tried touching mains plug to earth to clear static
but no joy. any help would be great.
