how do i get my camera to switch on?

ive got a sony cybershot dsc s -40 camera,however,when i switch it on,i can hear it getting ready to turn on then it dies again.Ive bought every battery you can think of,but it just seems to not work,i need help,as i really want my camera to work,sony if youre out there,i need youre help
