Sky+ stuck in standby with flickering red light - HELP?

Can anyone help with advice on my Sky+ Thompson 80gb box. It no longer whirs the light is just red and flickering, I've tried resetting all the methods described in the forums and no luck. However I cannot see the recommendation by Shaun as referred to in this forum. Please can anybody help, I'm possibly about to be made redundant so do not wish to incur any unnecessary additional expense. Thanks in anticipation.
