What distance should coil/ electronic module be from the central turning mechanism that I guess acts as the older rotor did?

If it is a briggs and stratton as a lot of them were, then gap with a piece of card (otherwise you end up with magnetic feeler gauges) recommended air gap is 10 thou, although 11 will work ok, dont go too tight otherwise it will snatch the cord out of your hand.
