My Whirlpool Ultimate Care II still won't work?

Stopped mid-cycle. Making low pitched hum.
Thought drive coupler. Not. Called repairman.
Repair man first said Timer, replaced (after waiting 1 week), would not work.
Then said Motor, replaced (after waiting 1 week), still won't work.
Still makes low pitched hum.
Repairman said must be transmission, can replace (in 1 week).
Bought new washer.
Would like to fix this one for sister if possible easy repair, or just donate.
Any thoughts?
