Its difficult to say exactly as your description is a little vague. Can you pull the plastic dial knob off very easily, or does it feel loose when you turn it? if so you will need to buy a new dial knob and replace the damaged one. There are plenty of online parts suppliers that will be able get you one if they don't have stock currently.
