Mend Kenwood A701 Motor Works Speed

I accidentally spilt coffee into my Kenwood A701. ?

I can see that the motor still works but the variable speed is no longer working. I think it may be the capacitor. What do you think? I've pulled it apart and the brushes are fine.

Sorry I should have added that I cleaned the coffee out and dried it. I turned it on and it function perfectly and then dropped down to its lowest speed. No variable speed.
