open bonnet.remove plastic scuttle pannel near windsreen.looking from front of car, just under left wiper wheel box,,think theres 4 or 5 wire plug and 2 spade ternmials, held in by torx screw on later models,,also known as rheostat,£25 approx from vauxhall,2 different ones 4 + 3 speed versions,,

If your astra is after 1999, the resistor is behind the side passenger footwell side panel. You need to remove the Glove Box and side panel to get at it. The part then pushes out, and its a simple exchange of part. You can clean the nearby pollen filter at the same time.

rich what year is it?.......pre 1995 models the resistor is located on the left hand side of the engine bay(as u stand in front of it).to the right of the head light, just in front of the radiator.there is 3 or 4 brown wires going into it....thats where mine is and thats where they fit them at the factory....hope this helps
