My battery wont charge on my 89 Toyota hilux Desil turbo?

With my hilux the alternator light is on when im using the car and it will only last a few starts untill the battery goes flat. I think there must be somthing wrong with the alternator but it all looks fine to me does anybody know what the porblem with the alternator might be or if its another problem if so please say.
