how can I fix my alternator brushes?

can i get to the brushes on the alternator of my clio 1.9 diesel 96 model as the dashboard battery icon light stays on and wont charge the battery, i remember years ago as a young lad doing this on an escort mk2 just by reversing the brushes

You can buy brushes for most alternators but if they are not completly worn out it most probably not your problem. The regulator or rectifier or rotor can also cause the alternator to stop charging.

used to be two screws holding them on with the older cars. now its all internal of the alternator so its a remove and stripdown job. could be other fault with alternator such as diodes gone etc. best to remove it and get it tested at alternator specialists. who may recon it for you.
