Can I fix distorted sound on Panasonic DMR-ES30VEB?

Have had my Panasonic DMR-ES30VEB for approx 3.5 years. Have suddenly started experiencing distorted sound on playback of DVDs (shop-bought and home recordings). Have checked all connections & tried a lens-cleaning disc but no improvement. Sound is OK on playback of VHS. Any ideas?!
