Veritas 8 Alarm?

I have had this alarm for 18 years without problem. For the past 6 months it has buzzed and hummed so loudly it keeps us awake at night. Sometimes touching it stops the buzzing so I put something heavy against it but all this did was quieten it down so we could get some sleep but after a while it started again. My husband thought it was the transformer so we had that replaced with a brand new one and the buzzing still continues the same if not louder so I feel I have wasted my money. The solution given by the electrician was put some layers of kitchen roll in the box to damp down the sound. I felt that his suggestion was a bit dangerous. Any ideas it's driving us mad!!!!!

Well you never got back about the tightening of the transformer screws. The adjustment of the panel fixing screws. To alter the tension on the transformer.
Either would fix this issue.

You carry on using bog roll and we will read in the news of your home burning down.

Rather than listen to someone who watched the first Texecom panel burst into flames when it was introduced to me by the rep many years ago in his demo case as there was an issue with air flow in the display case.

What would I know ehh?

Boiler??? Really!!! Why??? The buzzing alarm box is upstairs and changes to humming when touched so is definitely that. Boiler is downstairs in the kitchen no where near. Clearly no one can help. Thanks anyway.

Hi don't understand much of what has been said here -simple non DIY person! Battery has been changed a number of times during the 18 years (noted it needed it when during power cuts alarm goes off). Battery was changed at same time as transformer so brand new. Battery in outdoor bell changed too. No other problems with it. All lights come on as they should. I can do a full set, part set and omit zones. For 18 years no buzzing from the box but non stop for the past 6 months. It seems securely fastened to the wall and although in a cupboard there is nothing near or around it but obviously not that well ventilated as the door is shut but has been OK for the majority. I'll have another look at the fixings over weekend but any other help would be appreciated. Desperate!! Yeah the guy (not friend) is an electrician but his advice did surprise me. He seemed to have come across this before but was unable to resolve the issue.

Downright dangerous.?
You sure he is an Electrician??????

These are suseptable to vibration, tighten up the mounting screws and or aback fixings adjusting the back fixings so there is slight tension on the control panel back, either of these will work.

As your your brainy mate tell him about generated heat in a non vented space ( As it virtually is) and fire hazards. We now don`t even leave paperwork in the panels let alone bog roll.

PS 18 years, when was it last serviced had a battery change? 5 yrs is the max before you should change the battery (7ah just google 12vdc 7ah alarm battery) this may be overloading the transformer also and causing the hum.
Next time before guessing, give us a call :D
