Simpson Esprit 550 spins when tub is full. Water on the floor!?

AT the end of the wash and rinse cycles the spin cycle starts when the bowl is still full of water. This causes water to overflow onto the floor. If I lift the lid it will then pump water out and then spin which is the correct process. I'm guessing the most likely cause is the timer switch, but I could be wrong. Any suggestions?
