how do you remove the drum from the transmission on a maytag?

In order to get to the center seal you will need a maytag spanner wrench (35-2968) to remove the hub nut. First remove the belt,then hub ring, remove the agitator, next remove the five screws attaching the inner tub to the nut seal (do not put fingers on new seal face), remove the wash tub, spray wd-40 lubricant on the hub nut using your spanner wrench and mallet tap nut clockwise you may have to stick a long screw driver through the holes on the frame into the transmission to prevent it from moving while tapping on the hub nut. Before removing outer tub take a permanent marker and draw alignment marks on both tub and frame. remove all screws from tub, then remove all screws from tub support. If you remove the springs and disconnect the fill hose and drain hose you can then remove the entire tub from the machine and have more room to work. There is a spring tool used on maytags, which will make this job easier for you. When replacing the springs start with the back springs first, take care not to break the pulley or bend the transmission stem, for a breakdown of your washer go to www3.sears.com, this is a challenging job it normally take me around 45min, but if you've never done it maybe 3 hour. take your time and remember were everything goes. good luck.
