Mend Citroen C3 Door Open Closed

How do I fix the door open retention system of a Citroen C3?

The mechanism that keeps the door open i.e.prevents it from falling closed on an incline, is not functioning. What could be wrong with it and are there any precautions I need to take when removing it?
