Mend Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Problem Light Cuts

how can i fix the fuel problem on my 2002 sprinter van?

the edc light comes on then the van just cuts out and sometimes wont start but then when it starts it just cuts out again i have been told that it is something to do with the fuel
