Re, Simpson Espirit 700 Clothes Washer, ?

Hi Folks,
I have a Simpson Espirit 700 clothes washer. When on the wash cycle, the agitator rotates in 1 direction only, pauses, & then rotates again in the same direction . It does NOT rotate to & fro . The same effect is experienced when I try to rotate the agitator by hand .
Is there a simple DIY way of resolving this problem ?

You could check that the brake arm has locked on to the gearbox properly. If it hasn't it will turn one way then bind up & be unable to go the other way. Usually if this happens it will be free one way then when it reverses you will hear the motor humming but the agitator will not move. If however the motor does not hum when it should be going backward then you probably have a faulty timer & will need to replace it.
