could be water getting into the engine, try getting a water resistent spray from halfords and spray the hole engine, cover everthing electrical, worked for me, hope it helps.

could be a number of things. if the engine light is on then it will need to go to a garage and a diagnostic check will be needed to turn the light off and find exactly what the fault is.
