Panasonic DVD-LX8 - Black Screen?

I have a panasonic dvd-lx8 that worked perfectly fine for many years. Then one day a child dropped it and the screen went black...mostly. You can hear it just fine and can see a hence of the picture. What it seems like me is that the brightness function no long works. I can barely see the options enough to adjust them...but nothing happens to the output of the screen. Anyone?
