fuzzy projection tv ?

I have a 54" rear projection Magnavox TV. The picture seems to be getting darker and more out of focus. Somebody told me i had to have the 'lamps' cleaned in the back. is this something i can do myself? If so, how? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
