Mend Rover 414i Told Gear Oil

i have a whinning sound?

i have a rover 414i and have a whinning sound when i accelerate was told the gear box needed oil so i done that it is still the same what could be the problem

if it was coming from gearbox and gear oil made no difference sounds like bearings have gone in gearbox. better off replacing gearbox.
