Can any tell me if the boxes will work in the Usa?

I bought a box as a gift for a friend in New York, the guy who sold it said it will anywhere in the world ?.
I can't get it to work. Can any one help.....

are you in new york now? what make is the box , they use narvision 3 , over there , like us here in ireland , in the uk your on nargvision 1 . the box i have here is working on , narvision 3 , its ( kryptview evolution A750 , ) what make of box do you have "
