the engine management light is on. ?

I own a 2ltr. Honda Accord (1999-2002). The engine management light is on.I was advised to short out a two wire connector at rear of dash on passenger side and count light flashes with ignition on, i count " 4 " slow and " 1 " quick ( total 5 ). Can someone decode please
