bike alarm?

i have a meta alarm on a honda blackbird. The bike is s reg and the age of the alarm is unknown. The battery went flat over the winter so i left it and put a new one on. The bike wont respond as the meta system wont kick in. I have put new batteries in the fob just in case!. Doing some research online it seems that this is common and I may have to remove the alarm completely. Does anyone know how big a task this is. I am a novice mechanic!
