Mend Craftsman Runs Fine

How do I repair a Craftsman rear tine rototiller transmission?

The engine runs fine, but transmission shifts very hard. Forward & reverse work but will not shift into till mode.

I had the same problem and found the drive chain in the transmission was broken. ($26.00 at sears parts direct). However after replacing it I must have re-assembled something wrong because it will not go into neutral or reverse now. I may tear it down and try again but unless you like working on these things might be best to take it to shop. It is a somewhat time consuming and messy job.
