i have a fuel problem?

i took my vauxhall comb diesal van reg-EJ52 WKN to a garage with starting prob,it would start with a push, they said it needs a fuel pump which is situated at the front of engine, and that the engine would have to be lifted out to replace it, this is after he checked the cu unit on the top end of engine, can you help, he told me the part costs £180 and take a day to do.
