They come off easily enough, but don't seem to go back on again. You seem to need 3 hands. Is there any special procedure for this, does anyone know?

No definitive answer but having done this myself with terrible difficulty on my own car, later realised it may help to remove the driving flange first to give easier access to all the parts.
