How can I fix my Potterton Lynx boiler?

My boiler does not ignite, which is clearly an electrical problem, and is only likely to try to do so when covers are removed from it. It will also try and ignite when the back door is closed, this does not matter if either done gently or slammed. The door is about 10 foot from the boiler. Closing a window on the same wall or any other door has no effect. Coupled with this the water pressure is not being maintained, and leaks through the pressure relief pipe. I have repalced the pressure release valve, this has stopped the leaking but pressure still drops although more gradually than before.

Well I've had a Potterton Lynx 2 boiler for the last 14 years now and every single part in the boiler has been replaced at least once including 3 circuit boards (they cost £250 a piece, thank God for British Gas Maintenance Scheme). The fault you mention could be a circuit board problem or a loose ignition wire. The ignition wire on mine is basically a spade connector which is wedged into a slot on the edge of the circuit board, very crude indeed. Check that out first. This morning my temperature sensor blew off the pipe and I had gallons of hot water all over the floor so the boiler's had it's last chance. Think my next one won't be a Potterton. Good luck.

Not sure if this will help with your problem, but I also had ignitiion problems solved by resoldering dry joints on the board. Worth a try if you're handy with a soldering iron.

that sounds serious, not something that is DIY.

I Came home this evening and there is no hot water. No lights on the boiler light, and the heating does not work when turned on.
I have only been in this property 6 months and have no idea where to start.

Please help me.

I had a non ignite problem with my pot/lynx it was bad connections on the circuit boards. PUSHING the central heating knobs sometimes made it work!. I fixed it by re-soldering the joints which were poorly designed, pins though boards not bent over but using solder to blob the connection. Make sure you disconnect the power before attempting repair. I've had pressure problems as well, sometimes the water board lowers it, and I don't have a water leak. Re-charging it from the mains does it for a while. Hope this helps.
