no sound from speakers?

I assume that you have these speakers correctly plugged into the usually green speaker port of your sound card in the back of your computer? Are you just now installing these speakers, or have they worked for you before? Are you installing standard speakers with one connector, or perhaps 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound speakers? Have any speakers worked for you with this computer at any point in time and these simply do not work?

First make sure to check the cable connections to your speakers. Next, we'll check the drivers, which your computer uses to communicate with the speakers. Open your [Start] menu on the taskbar and select "Settings" and then "Control Panel." Assuming XP: open "System" and navigate to the "Hardware" tab. Next, click the "Device Manager" button near the top and you'll be presented with a list of hardware installed in your computer. Scroll to the "Sound" section and click the Plus next to it to expand and look for any icons with a red "X" over them. If there are none, then your problem most likely lies with the speakers. Assuming 2.1 or 2 speakers: Connect the usually green connector to an Mp3 player or CD player and turn it on, do the speakers produce sound? If not, then your speakers are broken and I can't help you.

If you have a driver error (Red "X"), let me know and I'll try to guide you through installing an appropriate driver. Unless you've just installed either Windows, or the sound card, this usually isn't the case, though drivers can sometimes become corrupt.
