Mend Hotpoint FDW60 Dishwasher Programme Flashing

Hotpoint FDW60 flashing prewash?

my dishwasher is about 18 months old and won't work, it just keeps flashing the prewash light when i try to start any programme. hotpoint say to empty the water from the tray underneath, done this and it worked once.
anyone have any ideas?
